Butterfly by Rebecca Sherwin
Genre: Dark Romance
Release Date: 21 October 2016
I once was Erin, fierce and strong,
But now she’s gone, I don’t belong.
He wants my heart, but it’s not mine.
I’ve hidden it, and now can’t find
The soul it once took solace in.
All that’s left is pain and sin.
But still, my dark knight keeps me here.
To live in hate and dread and fear.
So what will happen once he knows,
The more he hurts me, the more I grow?
The faster I flourish in the dark,
The harder I fight to leave my mark.
When his mind swallows me whole,
When he finds my heart as black as coal,
Will he save me from his hell,
Or remind me just how hard I fell?
I once was Erin, fierce and strong.
Now this pitch black world is where I belong.
I’ve waved the girl I was goodbye.
Now I am his Butterfly…

Excerpt: From Chapter Seven
When I wake up, I know I’m back in Cooper’s house. I can smell his closeness, with the lingering scent of sex. I’m bound again, this time against something hard, and I’m upright. I open my eyes and see Cooper below me, staring up at where he has me tied.
“Where am I?” I croak, trying to turn my head. I can’t. A rope around my neck stops me moving.
“In my tower,” he says.
He’s wearing all black, his dark hair brushing the collar of his black shirt, his powerful legs encased in black trousers. I’m stunned, afraid but fascinated with him.
“What are you going to do?”
“Let’s have a little chat.” With his hands behind his back, he paces the oak floor in front of me. “Why did you run?”
“I told you, I just wanted to let my family know I’m alive.”
“But they’re supposed to believe you’re not. This is as much a punishment for Griffin as it is for you.”
“What do you mean?”
“He doesn’t realise how lucky he is to have you, does he?” I stop struggling against the rope and stare at him. “He doesn’t realise that he’s got a strong, fierce woman, because he’s too preoccupied with shoving you into a box you don’t fit in.”
“Because I’m right?”
“You know you’re right. Now you’re just trying to hurt me.”
“Perhaps.” He turns away and crosses the room, reaching the floor to ceiling curtains opposite me and pulling them open. The moon streams into the room in a thick, glittering stream that illuminates Cooper, shadowing his powerful form and highlighting just how dark he is.
“Do you know what the funniest part is?” he asks, gesturing to the vast empty countryside beyond the window. We’re up high, tens of feet above the ground and looking down over the rolling hills of his land.
“You’re as low as you can get, as good as existing in the fucking sewers, and yet, you won’t allow me to lift you up where you belong. Instead you choose to tower above the world when no one knows you’re drowning. You’ve been forgotten, Erin. Just like that, the people you love have moved on, because they see you as nothing but a burden.”
“You’re wrong!” A tear trickles from my eye and I watch it fall to the floor in slow-motion. “Why are you doing this?”
“You ask me that a lot.” He turns and walks towards me, his turbulent grey eyes burning into my fractured soul. “Did you know, that a butterfly dies if you touch its wings? Right now, you’re my caterpillar, striving to be something more. I’m going to fill you up with deviance, little caterpillar, make you crave the next hit. And then, when you emerge from your cocoon a beautiful butterfly, I’m going to grab you by your tiny little wings and crush you beneath my palm.”
A squeak leaves me at the sincerity in his voice. I know, without a shadow of a doubt, me trying to run has done this.
And I have no doubt he’s going to accomplish his goal.
Cooper Jennings will break me, and I have no choice but to wait to be crushed.
About the Author:
Rebecca is a London born and bred working mother, writer and psychology student. She is the mother of a superhero (who is currently growing his hair like Thor! Edit: he has chopped off the Thor locks and gone for a Captain America look…Rebecca has no say in this, although Cap is her favourite 😉 ) and spends her days with her nose stuck in a textbook, her fingers tapping away at the keys…or she’s building forts and eating gummy bears.
She is the author of dark psychological romance. An avid reader and lover of stories that keep you guessing, Rebecca writes tales that will challenge your perceptions and toy with your emotions. Her stories invite you to open your mind and dig deeper into the meanings of the lives of each and every character you meet. She entices you into their world – to feel with them, grow with them, to love with them.
She asks you to become a part of them and allow them to become a part of you.

Butterfly by Rebecca Sherwin
I’ve read some books by Rebecca before and I wasn’t really sure what to expect with this book. The saying don’t judge a book by its cover absolutely comes into play here!
The cover is simply stunning in all its beautiful winged glory and fantastic colours to match.
So the story starts off and I honestly thought it was going to be a little less dark than Rebecca s usual style erm… wrong. I also thought it wouldn’t live up to the brilliantly sick reputation she has earned for herself through other books… wrong again!
The writing style is good and I absolutely adored some of the very British sayings in this book they made me LOL on more than one occasion!
So you keep reading and then you work out where this story is going and I can assure you, you are so so so wrong! The plot twists that this story comes out with are impeccably plotted and shows that we still have the writing we have all grown to love from Rebecca.
The characters are well thought out and some you will hate then love, others you want to slap and some you just want to jump in the page and slit their throat!
I will however warn you.. and please take it seriously! Nothing and I MEAN nothing can or will prepare you for the ending of this book!
I loved every single moment of reading this book and devoured it in under 24 hours! There are no plot holes and all the story ties in perfectly… that’s all I’m saying.
Buy it, read it, love it!
5* from me
